Since reading The Bear and the Nightingale some years ago, I've been hungry for Imperial Russia novels, especially solid, fantasy ones.

I think this was a decent contemporary YA read, but not the most engaging for someone who feels removed from that age bracket.

Shatter Me – A major disappointment
I forced myself to go through the book, hoping it would improve. But the writing was too much. Too many metaphors that pulled me out the scene, things like "my jaw was hanging by a shoelace." Poor writing overall, which is surprising for Mafi. Her other books were superb.
