I’ve been getting more into cozy mysteries and whodunits, much in the vein of Nancy Drew. And with the 1930s setting, what’s not to love?

Her Royal Spyness is the first book in the Royal Spyness series. Georgie is 34th in line to the English throne, and penniless. Her half brother and his wife have “economized” and stopped her allowance, so Georgie goes to London to find a job.

There, she meets with the queen, who gives her a job: spy.

As Georgie navigates being royal but poor, learning skills like lighting a fire or boiling an egg, and eventually finds a small job as maid, she realizes there’s more going on.

And when a dead body turns up in her brother’s bathtub, Georgie sets off to find out who the real killer is – and why they’re trying to frame her brother for murder. Things heat up when someone tries to throw her in front of train, poison her with a sugar cube, and throw her off a boat.

Goergie solves the mystery, learning who her real friends are and finding a soft romance on the way. A Hallmark Christmas movie feel, it’s exactly what a cozy mystery should be!
