April Book Wrap-up

Click on the titles below for my full review.

Small Spaces

This was a pleasant middle grade read! Though the premise, strange old ghost-like creature controlling scarecrows, seems ordinary, the writing made the book.

Dead Voices

I expected a bit more, since I’ve loved Arden’s other books, especially the Winternight trilogy. Not a bad book, but certainly Arden’s weakest.

Suspect Red

What a great middle grade book! Set in the 50s during the Red Scare and the height of McCarthyism, Suspect Red follows a young Richard as he tries to understand commies, being loyal to friends, and loyal to his country.

Fangirl

I think this was a decent contemporary YA read, but not the most engaging for someone who feels removed from that age bracket.

Little Fires Everywhere

Celeste Ng weaves a deft story, and it’s one that’s thought-provoking and has you taking the sides of different characters, only to swing back around and wonder if you’re being fair in taking sides.

Everything I Never Told You

A fantastic read that takes you on an emotional roller coaster, Everything I Never Told You is one part thriller, one part human study.

Where the Crawdads Sing

I loved Where the Crawdads Sing, and it’s my favorite so far this year. Poignant, rich, and haunting, it deserves all the hype it’s gotten, and more.

Recipe for a Perfect Wife

This was a beautiful rendering of two women, from different decades, learning their strength as women.

I really enjoyed Where the Crawdads Sing and Little Fires Everywhere, but would probably say that Crawdads is my favorite of the two.
